Smith witness in son's death query

NASSAU, Bahamas, Sept. 15 (UPI) -- A Bahaman coroner's inquest into the death of Anna Nicole Smith's son, Daniel Smith, is set for Oct. 23, with his mother as a witness.

Daniel Smith was visiting his mother in a Bahaman maternity hospital when he died.

Magistrate Linda Virgill, at a press conference held Thursday to clarify reports being circulated, said that Daniel Smith's body would be released to his family as soon as the toxicology report is in, The Nassau Guardian reported Friday.

"[First there is an] initial autopsy and then you must have a second just to confirm the findings," said Virgill.

She then went on to explain that the inquest into the death of Daniel Smith is not unusual, since sudden deaths are usually classified as suspicious.

Virgill also said that the autopsy results will not be released to the public and will only be heard if court officials ask for the report as evidence.

Anna Nicole Smith's Bahamas-based lawyer, Michael Scott, said she supports the inquest, reported People Magazine.
