Gervais to end 'Extras' after season

LONDON, Sept. 15 (UPI) -- With the second season of the British TV series "Extras" set to begin next week, creator Ricky Gervais has declared this season the comedy's last.

The comedian previously canceled his hit BBC comedy "The Office" after only two seasons. He and "Extras" co-creator always intended to limit the film industry series to two seasons, Zap2it.com reported.

"It's like 'The Office,'" he said, "people are always asking why we didn't do any more, but we just wanted to leave people wanting more."

The series' final season premiers next Thursday on BBC2 and will feature appearances by singer David Bowie and actors Orlando Bloom and Daniel Radcliffe.

Gervais said his next project could be a TV drama.

"I've got so many ideas in my head," Gervais told the Web site. "I think I could appear in a drama. I know people may say I couldn't be taken seriously, but I think it just depends on how strong and well-written it is."
