NFL greats continue to shine on 'Dancing'

LOS ANGELES, Sept. 14 (UPI) -- Dallas Cowboys legend Emmitt Smith shone this week on "Dancing with the Stars," marking the second time an NFL great has become an instant fan favorite.

After the star running back performed on Tuesday's 2-hour premiere of the reality series, viewers praised his effort on ABC's Web site drawing instant comparisons to last season's critical favorite, NFL legendary receiver Jerry Rice, said the New York Post.

"I didn't expect Emmitt to bring it like he did!" wrote a fan on the network's message board. "He was awesome and it seemed so effortless! Not to mention he has personality for days!"

The paper said that while some of the premiere's 20 million viewers took time to applaud Smith's effort on the series online, the studio audience did just that when Jerry Springer took the stage by encouraging him with the cries of "Jerry! Jerry! Jerry!" he has become accustomed to on his talk show.
