Marianne Faithfull diagnosed with cancer

PARIS, Sept. 14 (UPI) -- British singer Marianne Faithfull has postponed her world tour after announcing that she has been diagnosed with breast cancer.

The 59-year-old singer was diagnosed with breast cancer in France where she stays when not at home in Ireland, the Telegraph reported Thursday.

"I have absolute faith and confidence in my fantastic medical team and of course I will be well again, if not better than ever," said Faithfull. "Next year's tour, I want to assure fans, will be one big celebration."

Her world tour was set to kick off Oct. 7 in Paris and included concert dates in the United States, Canada and several countries in Europe.

"The disease has been quickly discovered by doctors in France -- where Marianne stays when not at home in Ireland - and the prognosis for a return to full health is excellent," her publicist told the Telegraph. "Indeed, Marianne Faithfull is looking forward to playing the re-scheduled tour in 2007."
