XENIA, Ohio, Sept. 11 (UPI) -- While performing this weekend at Ohio's Blues, Jazz & Culture Fest, comic Dave Chappelle praised the small Ohio town where he moved last year.
The Dayton (Ohio) Daily News said the comedian, who performed stand-up at Sunday's event, praised the people of Yellow Springs, Ohio, and said he intends to stay in the area.
"Hi, I'm Dave Chappelle. I used to be cable's hottest star and now I'm just a Yellow Springs guy," he said, referring to his relocation to the town in late 2005 from Los Angeles. "Turns out you don't need $50 million to live around these parts, just a nice smile and a kind way about you. You guys are the best neighbors ever ... That's why I came back and that's why I'm staying."
Chappelle had been open in the past about his displeasure with many aspects of Hollywood and returned to the area, where he once attended middle school, following his father's death and his decision not to return to his popular Comedy Central TV series.
The newspaper said Sunday's festival was conducted by the African American Cross Cultural Works, a group that Chappelle's father, Bill, originally co-founded with festival organizer Faith Patterson.
