NEW YORK, Sept. 1 (UPI) -- Fashions worn by stars at the Video Music Awards ceremonies in New York were decidedly more subdued than in previous years, MTV reported.
The video awards have been notorious for outrageous outfits, especially when the event was held in Miami in 2005, but celebrities practiced more restraint at Radio City Music Hall this year.
Ludacris wore a single piece of jewelry to complement his white dinner jacket. Christina Aguilera donned a glamourous form-fitting silver Versace gown while Justin Timberlake showed off a gray, three-piece suit, MTV reported.
Stars of both genders sported diamonds, including Pharrell with a diamond on a chain designed by Jacob the Jeweler, replicating an image on his latest CD. Shakira wore a 50-carat white diamond ring with an estimated value of $5 million designed by Sol Rafael.
Panic! at the Disco and Fall Out Boy wore Victorian fashions with handkerchieves, scarves and even a cloak, and Fergie sang "London Bridge" wearing Burberry short-shorts and knee-high boots, MTV reported.
Some didn't work the fashion angle much. Nick Lachey wore a T-shirt and Lil Wayne adopted the "just out of bed" look, MTV reported.
