Tate Modern to launch soundtrack project

LONDON, Sept. 1 (UPI) -- London's Tate Modern is set to begin a project in which cutting-edge musicians provide accompanying music soundtracks to featured works of art in the museum.

The museum has contacted several British musicians to compose recordings inspired by one of their favorite works at the Tate, which will then be offered to museum visitors at accompanying listening posts, The Independent reported.

"To hear a track in context to the work of art that inspired it is fantastically illuminating," said Tate spokesman Will Gompertz. "You can see both the profound impact that the work had on the musicians and the correlation that exists between music and art."

The project will begin this month with an offering from the electronica duo The Chemical Brothers, who will record a track inspired by sculptor Jacob Epstein's Torso in Metal.

Aimed at drawing in 15- to 25-year-olds to the museum, the art and music integration project will run through next April -- with contributions from musicians such as The Landscapers, hip-hop singer Estelle and former Blur guitarist Graham Coxon, the newspaper said.
