High-wire glitch causes anxious moments

DETROIT, Aug. 31 (UPI) -- There were some unexpected anxious moments when a technical problem interrupted the Fabulous Wallendas high-wire act 80 feet above Detroit.

A lunchtime crowd of several hundred watched as Lijana Wallenda balanced herself on a wire for more than five tense minutes before her brother Nikolas Wallenda helped her to safety, the Detroit News said.

The wire they walked as part of a McDonald's coffee promotion sagged as the troupe tried to correct an overloaded pressure sensor that monitors tension in the equipment.

The siblings are the seventh generation of Wallendas to thrill crowds. Three groups of Wallendas currently perform worldwide.
