LONDON, Aug. 30 (UPI) -- A summary of the embargoed "Peter Pan" sequel has been published but details of the book, being released in October, were inaccurate, the BBC reported.
"Peter Pan in Scarlet" -- written by Geraldine McCaughrean -- has been kept under wraps and the publishers do not know how the information was revealed to The New York Times.
When J.M. Barrie, author of "Peter Pan," died in 1937, he gave the copyright and intellectual property rights to Great Ormond Street Hospital. The hospital conducted a worldwide search to find a writer to pen the sequel, choosing McCaughrean.
She had won the Whitbread Children's Book of the Year three times and was known for reinterpreting classics for young readers.
"As the published article only included a few new details, plus some inaccuracies, we do not feel that the secrecy around the manuscript has been compromised," Great Ormond Street Hospital and Oxford University Press said in a joint statement. "We are delighted with the interest that publication of 'Peter Pan in Scarlet' has generated and look forward very much to (Oct. 5), when so much more will be revealed."
