NEW YORK, Aug. 30 (UPI) -- Disney's "The Lion King" stage musical will open to audiences in South Africa before marking its 10th anniversary on Broadway.

The South African production in Johannesburg is scheduled to open in July 2007 and the musical will celebrate its 10th anniversary on Broadway in November, Playbill.com reports.

Disney is building a new theater in South Africa, designed specifically for the show, Disney Theatrical Productions President Thomas Schumacher said.

"We have always dreamed of producing our show in South Africa," Schumacher said. "The music, the culture, and the spirit of the country are an integral part of 'The Lion King' and opening this production brings us full circle."
