Teen angst revisited with new Hughes DVDs

LOS ANGELES, Aug. 29 (UPI) -- Two new special edition DVDs of Hollywood writer-producer John Hughes' more memorable teen angst films have been released to U.S. stores.

The Los Angeles Times said new editions of classic '80s films, "Pretty in Pink" and "Some Kind of Wonderful," were released on DVD this month, allowing fans of Hughes to revisit the teen-directed body of work that made him a Hollywood heavyweight.

Both films followed in the teen tradition of Hughes' more popular films, "The Breakfast Club" and "Sixteen Candles," focusing on the lives of angst-ridden teens who struggled with their parents, friends and with love.

The new DVD editions from Paramount of 1986's "Pink" and 1987's "Wonderful" offer viewers retrospective documentaries as well, in which many of the films' stars detail the trials and tribulations associated with the original productions, the Times said.

The newspaper said that each new DVD of the 56-year-old writer-producer's classic works, which he created with director Howard Deutch, is now available for $15 a piece.
