Bogdanovich has one-man show at AFI fest

LOS ANGELES, Aug. 29 (UPI) -- Director Peter Bogdanovich will show "Sacred Monsters," an autobiographical film about his Hollywood years, at the American Film Institute Fest in Los Angeles.

At the AFI's 20th anniversary, a special tribute will be made to Filmex, its 1970s precursor, Daily Variety reported.

"The Last Picture Show" directed by Bogdanovich, which won two Academy Awards and received eight nominations, opened the first Filmex on Nov. 4, 1971.

"I have a fond place in my heart for AFI Fest and Filmex for many reasons," he said.

The 2006 AFI Fest runs Nov. 1-12 at ArcLight Cinemas in Hollywood, Calif. One of the festival's special events will be a 24-hour movie marathon, benefiting a charity, Variety said. Filmex often held marathon screenings.

A Web site is in development that will allow users to search for films going back to Filmex's inception, the report said.

"Recognizing the legacy that 'the Garys' (Filmex founders Gary Essert and Gary Abraham) created is long overdue," said Tom Pollock, co-founder of Filmex and Montecito Picture Co. partner.
