NEW YORK, Aug. 27 (UPI) -- Meredith Vieira, new co-host of NBC's "Today" show in New York, says her mother helped her grow up thinking her career would be as successful as any man's.
"She always made me feel that I would do as well or better than any guy," Vieira tells Time magazine. "And I was too stupid to think I would have a hard time."
The 52-year-old journalist, who joins Matt Lauer on the program Sept. 13, once turned down a job as co-host of "The Early Show" on CBS because she did not want to get up at 4 a.m. She says changed her mind this time because she considers "Today" "an institution."
And she believes she will find her stint there pleasurable.
"I think I'll enjoy 'the view' from 'Today,'" she says, alluding to the daytime ABC talk show she is leaving. "If I ever reach the point where I can't enjoy it, I'm out of there. With those hours, you'd better have fun."
