Rapper Hicks' remains may be relocated

OAKLAND, Calif., Aug. 27 (UPI) -- After Andre Hicks' tombstone was taken from an Oakland cemetery, the rapper's family is considering moving his remains to another California location.

AllHipHop.com said relatives of the Oakland-born rapper, known as Mac Dre, may move his remains to Vallejo, Calif., in order to keep them safe after the artist's tombstone was reported missing from his grave this month.

"We just think it's some kind of fan. Some crazed fan who put it in their house," said Bernard Hicks, the rapper's uncle, of the theft from the Oakland Mountain View Cemetery.

The family has asked for the tombstone's return and has promised not to file any charges if it is returned undamaged.

Mac Dre died in late 2004 in a drive-by shooting, ending a life which featured musical collaborations with Snoop Dogg and Yukmouth but also linked the rapper to California street gangs and bank robberies, the Web site said.
