'Law and Order' TV event ruined in Sydney

Aug. 22, 2006 at 10:28 PM

SYDNEY, Aug. 22 (UPI) -- Sydney TV viewers were able to watch a special two-part "Law and Order: SVU" event, but a mistake by Channel 10 forced them to watch it out of order.

Channel 10 viewers were forced to watch the special double episode of the popular U.S. crime drama in reverse order Monday night after the programming department at the TV network's headquarters in Pyrmont mistakenly gave the second episode a higher classification, said The Sydney Daily Telegraph.

"The second one was shown ahead of the first one for classification reasons and they didn't realize the two were linked," said a Channel 10 spokesman.

The special event had been promoted by the network as the episodes of the year for the series, as they showed TV detectives Elliot Stabler and Olivia Benson, played by actors Christopher Meloni and Mariska Hargitay respectively, split up in the first episode before being reunited in the second.

The paper said the programming mistake drew complaints from Confidential readers the next day and has caused quite a commotion at the network's headquarters.
