LONDON, Aug. 21 (UPI) -- "Dr. Who" producer/writer Russell T. Davies said he scuttled a spinoff of the popular British TV series at the 11th hour because he got cold feet.
"It was actually commissioned by the controller of BBC One and budgeted," Davies told Doctor Who Magazine.
Davies said his decision to pull "Rose Tyler: Earth Defense" ended up costing him "a fortune" but he worried the spinoff could ultimately hurt the credibility of the main "Dr. Who" series, which is filming new episodes in Wales, the BBC reported Monday.
"It spoils 'Doctor Who' if we can see Rose ... if we see as a concrete fact that her life continues to be as exciting without the Doctor," he said.
Another spinoff "Torchwood, featuring time traveler Captain Jack, will make its bow on BBC Three in the fall.
