'Scrubs' debuts comical medical musical

NEW YORK, Aug. 21 (UPI) -- NBC's U.S. sitcom "Scrubs" will have a musical episode this season with the help of songwriters from Broadway's "Avenue Q," TV Guide reported.

"We can obviously help with the lyrics," executive producer Bill Lawrence said.

The show needed high-quality score that was also funny, he told TV Guide.

The music will be woven into the script, which describes an actual medical case, the New York Post reported.

"We found one of a woman who had an aneurysm and (started) seeing everything as a musical," Lawrence said.

The Emmy Award-winning show in its fifth season focuses on several characters working at a teaching hospital, in an urban setting.

"Scrubs" is produced by Touchstone Television for NBC.
