CBS to air 'after-school' concert

LOS ANGELES, Aug. 21 (UPI) -- CBS TV is broadcasting the Los Angeles "JCPenney JAM" concert for after-school programs, featuring a variety of stars.

A one-hour special at 8 p.m. Tuesday will feature the June 14 concert at the Shrine Auditorium, which was the largest project ever to raise awareness of the need for after-school programs for working families, a J.C. Penney news release said.

Hosted by Dr. Phil and Robin McGraw, performances spanned the musical spectrum, from Jon Bon Jovi, Sting, Mary J. Blige; country stars Sara Evans, Kenny Chesney and Martina McBride; jazz star Chris Botti, rock group 3 Doors Down, tenor Andrea Bocelli, Latin star Alejandro Sanz and R&B star John Legend, the news release said.

J.C. Penney Corp. Inc. sponsored the "The JCPenney JAM...The Concert for America's Kids," to bring attention to the 14.3 million U.S. children who are are unsupervised after school each weekday, the release said.
