LONDON, Aug. 19 (UPI) -- Princess Diana was not pregnant when she died in 1997, says the British mortician who witnessed the post-mortem examination.
The Times of London reported Saturday that Robert Thompson, the manager of the London mortuary where the post-mortem took place, also said a controversial embalming performed in France was not completed and was done for cosmetic reasons.
Thompson, whose statements will be aired Monday in a documentary on the tragedy, said a light embalming of the upper body was carried out in Paris so that it would remain in the best possible condition in anticipation of the body lying in state, The Times said.
Thompson's revelations contradict a popular conspiracy theory that the princess was assassinated because she had become pregnant with the child of Dodi Fayed, son of outspoken retail mogul Mohamed Al Fayed.
Al Fayed has consistently said the Paris traffic accident that killed his son and Diana was set up by the royal family, whose members were angry because of her relationship with Dodi.
