
LONDON, Aug. 18 (UPI) -- The star of the newest installment in the James Bond series, Daniel Craig, has landed a role in "The Golden Compass."
The film is an adaptation of the first book in Philip Pullman's successful trilogy that features "The Northern Lights/The Golden Compass," "The Subtle Knife" and "The Amber Spyglass," the BBC reported Friday.
The trilogy centers on a young girl named Lyra Belacqua, in a parallel universe, whose travels to the far North to save her best friend and other children, who have been kidnapped to be used in sometimes deadly experiments.
Craig is to play one of the main characters, Lord Asriel, while the lead role of Lyra will be played by Dakota Blue Richards.
The cast also includes Nicole Kidman and Craig's Bond co-star Eva Green.
