ROME, Aug. 16 (UPI) -- Leonardo da Vinci is the subject of an Italian cartoon series that reportedly plays fast and loose with details of his life.
Episodes about da Vinci's childhood in Tuscany, Italy, are total fiction -- starting with the fact he didn't even spend his early years there, ANSA reported Wednesday. Da Vinci actually grew up and went to school in Florence.
The series also incorporates a young friend who eventually becomes the model for Da Vinci's Mona Lisa portrait, but scholars widely agree the real Mona Lisa was 27 years younger than the master, ANSA said.
However, ANSA said Da Vinci's talents as an inventor and artist are accurately portrayed in the cartoon, which is expected to debut late next year.
