'Hurricane Songs' offer kids musical help

PALM BEACH, Calif., Aug. 13 (UPI) -- Florida music therapist Tom Dalton's new album "Hurricane Songs for Kids" offers children ways to cope with emotional reactions to a hurricane.

The Miami Herald said Dalton created the nine-track album as a means to educate children about hurricanes, so they would be more prepared and calm if they ever experience one.

"I wanted to give (kids) a tool," said Dalton, 53. "It's important for kids to be part of that progress, not just waiting in the background."

Students from Clark Forest Hill Montessori school joined Dalton on such tracks as "Sometimes I Get So Scared" and "What a Hurricane Sounds Like," providing background vocals.

Clark Forest Director Bee Clark, who lived through a hurricane in her youth, said her students enjoy the album and listen to it often.

"It's good for children because they are so freaked out by the hurricanes," she told the Herald.
