NEW YORK, Aug. 13 (UPI) -- Pregnant U.S. actress Maggie Gyllenhaal says she isn't taking on any new projects right now because she doesn't know what motherhood will be like.

The 29-year-old actress -- who is promoting her films "Trust the Man," "World Trade Center," "Sherrybaby" and "Monster House" -- is expecting her first child with her actor/fiance, Peter Sarsgaard.

"I am looking at things with the future in mind and I also know there is really no way to anticipate what it will feel like to be a new mother, and, so, I'm not making any plans at all," she told reporters in New York recently. "I'm just waiting to see what I feel like; what I need and what the baby needs."

Gyllenhaal declined to discuss the details of her pregnancy.

"After doing press for the past month, the one thing I really instinctively know, is that I have to keep this baby out of it," she said. "That's my first job as a mother, I think."
