Duran Duran to star in online world

LONDON, Aug. 9 (UPI) -- The British band Duran Duran will be recreated into Internet citizens who will live inside Second Life, the online virtual world.

In a press release, band members Simon Le Bon, John Taylor, Roger Taylor, Andy Taylor and Nick Rhodes said they are prepared to live out second lives as custom-designed avatars that will live and continue performing on a fantasy island inside the virtual world.

Always known for being on the cutting edge of technology in the music business, Duran Duran says it will become the first band ever to live in an online world as part of its new online strategy designed by the 3003 Group of London.

"Second Life is the future right now, offering endless possibilities for artists," said keyboardist Nick Rhodes. "Our community will be able to help develop the island into a fully functional, futuristic utopia, where you can never be quite sure what to expect."

Virtual world designers Rivers Run Red will create the online universe and the band's avatars, which are set to begin their Internet journey later this month with a live virtual concert.
