Touchstone signs 'Invasion' head Cassidy

LOS ANGELES, Aug. 8 (UPI) -- Shaun Cassidy's "Invasion" met an early TV demise this year, but his signing with Hollywood's Touchstone Television means future projects from the producer.

The Hollywood Reporter said the 47-year-old Cassidy has signed a seven-figure deal with Touchstone for two years, plus an option for a third, to produce TV projects such as his last offering, "Invasion."

Cassidy's dramatic series of an alien invasion in a small Florida town had met with praise from critics, but lackluster ratings caused ABC to cancel the series after only one season on the air.

"Shaun has continually engaged our attention through the range and breadth of the shows he has created," said Touchstone exec Julia Franz. "He has a way of taking a common theme and twisting it into something that feels innovative and unique."

The newspaper said by signing the deal with Paramount, Cassidy is set to leave Warner Bros. TV, where he created or executive-produced series such as "Cold Case," "American Gothic," and the WB's "The Mountain."
