The New York Shakespeare Festival/The Public Theater production is based on a modernized translation by Pulitzer Prize winner Tony Kushner of the classic 1941 Brecht work.

Starring as the lead in "Mother Courage and her Children," Streep will play a mother whose three children are all taken away by war, causing her to ultimately attempt to profit off the war and in doing so question the realities around her.

The New York production is scheduled to run until Sept. 3, said Playbill.com.
