Film stars set to lead 'Fences' production

PASADENA, Calif., Aug. 7 (UPI) -- A production of the drama "Fences" at the Pasadena, Calif., Playhouse has gotten another injection of film stars into its already impressive cast.

Joining famed actors Angela Bassett and Laurence Fishburne on the California set of the play will be film regulars Kareem Hardison and "Drumline" star Orlando Jones, said Playbill.

The production from artistic director Sheldon Epps is scheduled to officially begin at the Playhouse on Sept. 1 and will run throughout the month before concluding on the first day of October.

"This is the kind of incredible cast that a director dreams of and prays for," Epps said of his cinematic all-star cast. "This tremendous group of artists coming together for this production is a great tribute to August Wilson and a genuine sign of the deep admiration and devotion that his writing inspires in actors. I know that this is a combination of players who will produce genuine theatrical fireworks in this beautiful and moving play."

Playbill said the play, which has won a Pulitzer Prize for Drama and a Tony Award for Best Play, covers the life of a former Negro League baseball player as he struggles as a garbage collector in Pittsburgh during the 1950s and 1960s.
