DiFranco set to go on hiatus for pregnancy

NEW YORK, Aug. 6 (UPI) -- Ani DiFranco says she is pregnant and will go on hiatus from the world of music after a performance at New York's Beacon Theatre later this year.

The New York Post reported that with the singer/guitarist due to become a parent next February along with father-to-be Michael Napolitano, she has decided to take a break from performing after her Beacon concert on Nov. 18.

"The Beacon is the end of the line," the 35-year-old singer said. "That will be the last show pre-momhood."

DiFranco first publicly revealed her pregnancy at New York's National Organization for Women Conference and Young Feminist Summit on July 21 while accepting its "Women of Courage" award.

She is also preparing to continue her trend of releasing an album nearly each year since 1990 with Tuesday's planned release of "Reprieve."

"Reprieve" finds the prolific artist singing about feminism and in some tracks about pregnancy, the paper said.
