'Snakes on a Plane's' slithering campaign

LOS ANGELES, Aug. 4 (UPI) -- The offbeat marketing campaign for the U.S. film "Snakes on a Plane" ran into a snag when one of the Web sites it was using crashed.

Fans flooded the Web site that allowed visitors to send partially personalized phone messages that feature star Samuel L. Jackson, urging the recipient to see the movie when it opens Aug. 18, the Los Angeles Times reported Friday.

In the messages Jackson pitches the far-fetched thriller and finally shouts, "You don't want to mess with me on this one because I will come after you. You hear me?"

But no one received the call because of a system overload that prevented the calls from going through. In some cases, the phone rang but when people answered they heard nothing.

In another marketing ploy, fans can now make their own "Snakes on a Plane" T-shirts at CafePress.com, TMZ.com reported.

The deal between New Line and CafePress doesn't give the site's users any pre-made graphics or images to use in their creations, relying solely on the creativity of the T-shirt maker.
