Weber stars in 4th Stephen King adaptation

NEW YORK, Aug. 1 (UPI) -- U.S. actor Steven Weber says the complexity of Stephen King's characters is what led him to star in four small-screen adaptations of the horror master's work.

"I'm a fan of Stephen King's, but I can't believe I'm his go-to guy," the former "Wings" star recently told UPI. "'I've written another story, get me Steven Weber to embody it!' I don't think he says that. But, for me, it's a happy accident."

Weber said he enjoyed starring in TV versions of "The Shining," "Desperation" and TNT's new mini-series, "Nightmares & Dreamscapes: From the Stories of Stephen King," because they offered him the chance to play "very human" characters.

"They aren't superheroes," noted Weber, who also acted in an "Outer Limits" episode King penned. "They're all riddled with doubts and are normal people in abnormal or extraordinary circumstances. To me, that's what's appealing. You can play them... They are weak, but they're hopeful. They're not just two-dimensional."

Weber's installment of "Nightmares & Dreamscapes," co-starring Kim Delaney, is set to premiere Wednesday.
