LOS ANGELES, July 31 (UPI) -- Los Angeles police have reopened the Notorious B.I.G. slaying investigation in an effort to prove its officers were not involved in the rapper's death.
Rap icon Christopher Wallace, who also called himself Biggie Smalls, was gunned down at a Los Angeles intersection nine years ago. His mother, Voletta Wallace, has sued the police department and City of Los Angeles alleging a cover-up in the crime and subsequent investigation that failed to find his killer.
The police department's working theory is Wallace was shot by a street gang as payback for the killing of Tupac Shakur in Las Vegas three months earlier, the Los Angeles Times reported Monday.
Wallace and Shakur allegedly got caught up in a feud between East Coast and West Coast rappers.
