Los Angeles location shoots down 6 percent

LOS ANGELES, July 26 (UPI) -- Los Angeles has seen a 6.8 percent decline so far this year in the number of on-location shoots for films, TV shows and commercials.

The decline is attributed to other states becoming more competitive for the lucrative business, the Los Angeles Times reported Wednesday.

Los Angeles has seen 7,863 production days -- representing location filming in all genres on a given day -- compared to 8,426 during the same period last year, the newspaper said.

The drop in production days ended a long period of steady growth in LA's overall production activity. The loss of TV production has hit the region particularly hard.

"We've always talked about how lucky we are to have television production here," FilmL.A. President Steve MacDonald told the Times. "Now we're starting to see a crack in the veneer of television."

FilmL.A. is a non-profit group that handles permits for location production in the Los Angeles region.
