LOS ANGELES, July 21 (UPI) -- Screenwriter Daniel Clowes is adapting his quirky story "Death Ray" for actor Jack Black's Black and White film production company.
Daily Variety said "Death Ray" won an Eisner award when it was published in a recent issue of Clowes' "Eightball" comic and features a super-powered suburbanite man attempting to live an ordinary life.
"I like the idea of him as a cranky 48-year-old man," the scribe said regarding the film update of his story. "Using his powers to throw kids off his lawn."
The "Art School Confidential" screenwriter was nominated for an Academy award in 2001 with fellow writer Terry Zwigoff for the "Ghost World" screenplay.
While no director has been officially announced for the film adaptation, the 45-year-old screenwriter openly sung the praises of German director Alan Smithee, Variety said.
