MALIBU, Calif., July 21 (UPI) -- Kevin Federline, husband of pop star Britney Spears, will close the Teen Choice Awards in Los Angeles, performing his new single, "Lose Control."

Federline said he is ready to take his music to a national audience, People reported.

The rapper is closing the awards show at the Universal Amphitheater Aug. 20 with a song from his upcoming album, "Playing with Fire," USA Today reported.

"It's been building up for a long time, and the process with the album took a long time, so I decided to just get out there and jump on stage," Federline said.

Federline said Spears would be his date for the ceremonies as long as the pregnant star feels up to it.

"This is my first big event, and I need her support and I want her support," he said.

The couple have been collaborating on a duet that Federline said expresses his perspective on the family. "People shouldn't believe what they're told about us," he said.
