LOS ANGELES, July 20 (UPI) -- Actor Haley Joel Osment, star of "The Sixth Sense," was in a Pasadena, Calif., hospital after hitting a pillar and flipping his car early Thursday.

Osment, 18, was nominated for an Oscar for his role in the 1999 thriller in which he played a child who could see dead people.

Osment was driving his 1995 Saturn Thursday morning when he lost control of the car about 1 a.m., according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. He was reportedly not wearing a seatbelt, The Insider said.

The actor was conscious and able to speak with deputies after the accident. He was taken to Huntington Memorial Hospital.

A statement from the hospital said Osment sustained cuts and abrasions, a fracture to a right rib and possible fracture to his right shoulder blade. He was stable, resting and will likely remain overnight for observation, but is expected to make a complete recovery.

Osment also starred in "A.I.: Artificial Intelligence," "Pay It Forward" and "Secondhand Lions."
