'Peyton Place' actress, motorcyclist dies

LOS ANGELES, July 13 (UPI) -- Actress Kasey Rogers, who later became a competitive motorcyclist, has died in Los Angeles at 80.

Rogers appeared on the TV series "Peyton Place" and "Bewitched" and starred as Farley Granger's wife in Alfred Hitchcock's 1951 thriller "Strangers on a Train." She died July 6 from a stroke, brought on by complications of treatment for throat cancer, her companion, Mark Wood, told The Los Angeles Times.

Born Imogene Rogers on Dec. 15, 1925, in Morehouse, Mo., Rogers acted in junior high and high school plays in Burbank, Calif. Discovered by a talent scout, she won a contract with Paramount in the late 1940s and early 1950s.

Her film credits included "Special Agent," "Denver and Rio Grande," "Silver City" and "Two Lost Worlds."

On TV, she appeared in "Wanted: Dead or Alive," "Bat Masterson," "Cheyenne," "Maverick," "Perry Mason" and "77 Sunset Strip."

Rogers began riding motorcycles and racing competitively in the 1970s. She also wrote columns on women's racing for Modern Cycle magazine and the Los Angeles Herald Examiner.

She spearheaded the first Powder Puff national race in 1974, said womensMXHistory.com, and stopped racing in 1977.

Married and divorced twice, Rogers is survived by her brother, four children, six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
