Kirstie Alley inspires major weight loss

July 13, 2006 at 5:25 PM   |   Comments

CARLSBAD, Calif., July 13 (UPI) -- "Cheers" actress Kirstie Alley has lost so much weight on the diet formulated by Jenny Craig of Carslbad, Calif., that she inspired others to lose even more.

Now Alley has a new commercial that shows off her new slim figure. A few people who heard her story and were motivated by it to follow the program appear on the television ad with her.

"I have groupies!" Alley told "Entertainment Tonight."

Alley lost 65 pounds on the Jenny Craig diet, but Carrie Jones shed 90, Jon Grey dropped 140 and Valerie Dumont lost 52.

Dumont has since become a Jenny Craig consultant. She was so excited by her success that she threw her fat pants at Alley in the ad.

"That was the icing on the cake for me, to meet Kirstie Alley," Dumont said.

Jones said her turning point came when her daughter called her fat.

"I didn't want to be the fat mom," Jones said.
