LOS ANGELES, July 9 (UPI) -- Disney's "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest" has made mincemeat of the box office record set by "Spider-Man" in 2002.
The studio estimates "Pirates" grossed more than $132 million in its opening weekend, $17 million more than the previous record held by "Spider-Man," Daily Variety reported Sunday.

"Pirates" set a record for single day box office gross on its Friday opening day with $55.5 million in sales then added an estimated $44.7 million Saturday to become the first film in history to break the $100 million mark in two days, Variety said.
The adventure film starring Johnny Depp opened Friday at 4,133 theaters.
