'Batman Vs. Superman' on back burner

HOLLYWOOD, July 7 (UPI) -- Either Bryan Singer or Wolfgang Peterson could direct "Batman vs. Superman," but the film is reportedly on hold in Hollywood.

Singer has a hit with "Superman Returns" and expressed interest in the "Batman vs. Superman" project, moviehole.net reported.

Peterson -- who made "Troy," "Air Force One," "Poseidon," "Das Boot" and other adventure films -- had been the first choice, but withdrew in part because he was unable to find the right actors to play the two superheroes.

The "plot is structured in a way that these two very different sides basically of the same coin have to clash at some point because they handle situations totally differently," Peterson said.

The current "Superman," Brandon Routh said he didn't see the "Batman vs. Superman" film happening any time soon.

"It's been stirring in its cinematic juices for too long ... and Warner (Bros.) has no real reason to do it at the moment, especially with both 'Superman Returns' and 'Batman Begins' making enough money on their own," Routh was quoted as saying.
