Sheryl Crow in tell-all interview

BURBANK, Calif., July 6 (UPI) -- Singer Sheryl Crow talks about her split with Lance Armstrong and being diagnosed with breast cancer in an interview with ABC's Diane Sawyer.

While Armstrong and Crow were still together she had a routine checkup and got some unsettling news from her doctors, she had hoped she wouldn't need surgery, ABC reported Thursday.

But a later examination indicated a lumpectomy was called for. Crow underwent breast cancer surgery in February to remove a lump and she also followed up with preventive radiation therapy.

The surgery took place just after she and Armstrong announced that they were splitting up.

In the interview, she challenged speculation that the seven-time Tour de France champion -- and also a cancer survivor -- left her when he found out she was sick.

"No. No. No, it was really, I mean, really difficult, you know, just really difficult for both of us," Crow told Sawyers. "I'm not angry. I mean, honestly, I look at it, and I just know that I can't be angry at Lance for being who he is. You know, he's a great person."
