SANTA MONICA, Calif., June 26 (UPI) -- Michael Jackson is being sued in Santa Monica, Calif., on claims that he owes $3.9 million to an alleged figure in his criminal case.

Jackson's former associate Marc Schaffel, represented by attorney Howard King, claims that Jackson owes him $3.9 for "expenses, salary and cash loans," USA today reported Monday.

Schaffel, 40, alleges in a court document that Jackson is a "profligate" spender and "a master of manipulating the people around him."

Schaffel says he will testify about the role he played in the child molestation case in which Jackson was acquitted a year ago.

King says Schaffel could tell the jury about "other payments of a confidential and personal nature which Michael is not going to want to have public testimony about," King said.

The case comes down to "an accountants' dispute," defense attorney Thomas Mundell said. Jackson's star witness will be a forensic accountant who will say Jackson owes Schaffel nothing for alleged loans, he added.
