NEW YORK, June 26 (UPI) -- Boy George was reprimanded but not jailed by a Manhattan judge Monday for missing a prior court date and not fulfilling the terms of his probation.
E! Online reports the 45-year-old singer will be able to avoid any jail time if he fulfills his court-appointed five days of community service.
"This is a simple matter," said Judge Anthony Ferrara, who had issued an arrest warrant for the singer to urge him into court. "Five days of community service. It's up to you as to whether it will be an exercise in humiliation or an exercise in humility. Your choice."
George, whose real name is George O'Dowd, was arrested on Oct. 7 for felony drug possession after police said they discovered cocaine in the singer's New York apartment while they were responding to a reported burglary.
Later O'Dowd's attorney was able to arrange for his client to plead guilty to a lesser charge of false reporting of an incident, for which he was sentenced to the community service and a $1,000 fine.
