MIAMI, June 23 (UPI) -- Miami-based singer Gloria Estefan and her husband are suing businesses that they claim have used elements of Estefan's "Conga" song.
Gloria and Emilio Estefan own two Bongos Cuban Café restaurants that exploit the lyrics from her hit. Their lawsuits are intended to control the Bongos name and concept, the Orlando (Fla.) Sentinel reported.
Suits have been filed against businesses including Bongo's Latin Grill & Bar in Houston and Coco Bongo in Tampa, Fla.
The lawsuit against the Houston restaurant was settled out of court.
Karen Stetson, an attorney for the Estefans, told the newspaper the name and theme of a restaurant doesn't have to be identical to Bongos Cuban Café to attract a lawsuit.
"Is the name sufficiently similar to create confusion?" Stetson said. "In our case, it's definitely causing confusion."
