'Mission: Impossible III' eluded censors

SHANGHAI, June 21 (UPI) -- A "Mission: Impossible III" scene filmed in Shanghai shows Tom Cruise running past a sign in Chinese that says: "Make fake documents."

Illegal Chinese businesses producing fake licenses, certificates and IDs have proliferated, although the country's film police would prefer that fact not be advertised worldwide, The Los Angeles Times reported.

Internet mavens have been amused by the censors' oversight. They've clipped the scene, posting it on the Web before the film's release in China next month.

While Shanghai has tried to improve its public image, boasting tall office buildings and fast trains, the gaff puts officials to shame.

"If you're filming in the streets of China, it'd be fake if you didn't see such business ads," read one Internet posting.
