'Lost' book 'Bad Twin' is a best seller

LOS ANGELES, June 21 (UPI) -- "Bad Twin," the "Lost" tie-in book, penned by thriller author Laurence Shames, lacks some of the elements the "Lost" writers were hoping for.

"Bad Twin" was published by Hyperion Books last month, written by Shames under the pseudonym Gary Troup, in a cross-promotional campaign meant to play off the obsessive interest of fans of the ABC series "Lost," The Daily Variety reported Wednesday.

Insiders say the author of the book had his own vision and wound up including only a few of the elements that the "Lost" writers supplied him with.

"Lost" scribes had written Troup in as a character on the show, a passenger presumed dead in the plane crash that left a manuscript behind. The connection sent fans flocking to bookstores to search for clues to the show's mysteries and propelling the book to a number of bestseller lists.

Nick Lachey picks up a new girl

TORONTO, June 21 (UPI) -- Nick Lachey hit Toronto to perform at the MuchMusic Video Awards, adding behind-the-scenes dates with Entertainment Tonight correspondent Vanessa Minnillo.

After the singer rehearsed, Minnillo "was beaming," says a source. "She shouted, 'I loved it!' He then gave her a bearhug," Us weekly reported Wednesday.

The two later headed to club Mink, after 3 a.m., and the pair reportedly retired to the SoHo Metropolitan Hotel.

The next day, they went to the Courthouse Chamber Lounge, where, a source says, "they were fully making out. Clearly they were both having a good time."

Jolie also said her son Maddox, 4, loves his new sister, while daughter Zahara, 16 months, is still coping with the addition to the family, People Magazine reported Wednesday.

"Mad loves her," Jolie said "Because when Z came home she was older, she was 7 months old, so for Mad it's like having this tiny little pet he can just hold and look at. He's great." Jolie was also happy to find that her feelings for Shiloh, her first biological child, were no different from those she felt for her adopted children.

"I was kind of prepared to defend my other children," she said. "I was prepared to kind of give them extra love and attention, because something was going to be different about this new one."
