MANCHESTER, Tenn., June 19 (UPI) -- Large crowds enjoyed the music at the annual Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival in Manchester, Tenn., over the weekend, the Knoxville News Sentinel said.
While lead performer Tom Petty drew over 60,000 satisfied fans, the News Sentinel said many of the best shows were in the smaller tents at the festival.
Bands including My Morning Jacket and Clap Your Hands Say Yeah only drew about 10,000 for their shows, but had some of the best music at the event, the newspaper said.
Singer Elvis Costello and New Orleans pianist Allen Toussaint also got rave reviews for their performance at Bonnaroo, with the duo mixing Costello's sound with the flair of New Orleans.
Yet one of the smallest shows deserved the most praise, the News Sentinel said. A blind couple named Amadou & Mariam performed an entire set in French.
