Steven Spielberg looks at new sci-fi film

LOS ANGELES, June 15 (UPI) -- Steven Spielberg wants to defy space and time with a movie based on the theories of Cal Tech's Kip Thorne.

Based on real science, the film will explore black holes and gravity waves and touch on some of the hypotheses that Albert Einstein chased but never could prove. Thorne is one of the world's leading experts on relativity, The Hollywood reporter reported Thursday.

It is certainly unclear how these scientific theories will evolve into a feature film, but the concept has been likened to "2001: A Space Odyssey."

Spielberg has not yet picked his next directing project since the unidentified sci-fi movie won't be ready to start shooting for at least two years. There are two very strong candidates, a fourth "Indiana Jones" movie for Paramount and an untitled Abraham Lincoln biopic for DreamWorks.
