'Year of a Million Dreams' at Disney

ORLANDO, Calif., June 8 (UPI) -- In an attempt to increase attendance at Disneyland parks, The Walt Disney Co. has declared the "Year of a Million Dreams" in the United States.

The promotion will feature prizes and tout Disney's global theme of "Where Dreams Come True," The Los Angeles Times reports.

Attendance at Disneyland parks was up 8.5 percent last year, as the company staged a worldwide celebration of the 50th anniversary of Disneyland in Southern California.

"The 50th is probably starting to wear a little bit," said Gary Slade, editor of Amusement Today magazine. "People have done their 50th trips. They've got their souvenirs bought, their pins bought, their photos and all that. And now they're ready for some new Disney magic."

Each park will tailor the new theme individually, but new rides and attractions will be created for each, the Times reported.
