Hallmark Channel grabs Warner Bros. films

LOS ANGELES, June 6 (UPI) -- U.S. cable TV's Hallmark Channel has cut a $30 million deal for the rights to 37 Warner Bros. films, including "March of the Penguins."

Newer titles along with library titles are part of the deal, which also gives Hallmark exclusive first-run rights to "Penguins" as well as Brad Pitt's epic adventure "Troy," Daily Variety reports.

"This is the first time Hallmark has ever made this kind of a first-play deal for theatrical movies on the level of 'Troy' and 'March of the Penguins,'" Hallmark's Dave Kenin told Variety.

Among the other films included in the deal are "Andrew Lloyd Webber's The Phantom of the Opera," "Kangaroo Jack," "Alex & Emma" and the Olsen twins' "New York Minute," Variety said.

While most of the films are considered family fare, some, like "Troy," will be heavily edited to fit in with the cable channel's format.
