NEW YORK, June 6 (UPI) -- The big winners at the CFDA fashion awards in New York this year were Francisco Costa, Thom Browne and Tom Binns.

Costa, for Calvin Klein, won womenswear designer of the year, Browne received menswear designer of the year and Binns won accessory designer of the year.

One of the stars in attendance was Jessica Simpson who made the biggest impact in a mini lace dress and metallic open toed sandals as she strolled the red carpet the New York Post reported Tuesday.

A newly svelte Janet Jackson, who strutted her stuff in a halter-top, tomato-red dress, was also at the awards ceremony along with "Sopranos" star Jamie-Lynn Sigler, who appeared in a dazzling, slightly more sedate, strapless gold dress.

Some of the others stars who had heads turning at the event included Scarlett Johansson, Lindsay Lohan and Amanda Bynes.
